If you have made the choice to get dentures, you almost certainly have discovered how much better your quality of life is with them. With the proper care, a good set of dentures can last a long time. Still, as with everything else in our world, your dentures will need to be updated and maintained from time to time.
If you have not come to see us to have your dentures updated recently, you should definitely do so within the next 12 months. Here is why.
Your Mouth Changes
Dentures sit on top of the soft tissue in your mouth. Over time, this tissue changes in shape, meaning that the dentures which once fit like a glove will no longer do so. This can cause all kinds of problems such as difficulty chewing, sores on your gum tissue, and even speech issues. To fix it, we need to re-contour the dentures
Deep Cleaning Doesn’t Get Everything
Although you are probably doing a great job keeping your dentures clean, over time you will find that you just can’t get them clean enough. This is because certain types of bacteria and other microbes will find their way into the denture material. This can cause the dentures to become discolored, and can contribute to problems with bad breath. To remedy this, we need to update your dentures from time to time.
Dentures Wear Down
Keep in mind that your dentures are constantly moving against each other. And, unlike your teeth, using a fluoride toothpaste won’t build them back up. This means that we need to replace the material that gets worn down over time.
The good news is that all of these problems are easily addressed. So, if we haven’t seen you for your dentures recently, give us a call and set up a time to have us take a look.
